Top tips for choosing frozen meals:
Look for whole foods as the main ingredients (the first few ingredients; it’s always ok if there are other ingredients listed, we just want them to be lower down the list)
Sodium: aim for <600mg per serving
Fiber: aim for >3g per serving
Protein: aim for >5g per serving (or more)
Prioritize leaner proteins like poultry, fish, plant based proteins
Portion size: For children under 10-12 years old, portions for some items may be too big. Frozen meals are usually most appropriate for teens/adults, so keep this in mind while serving. For other products, be sure to check if it includes more than one serving!
These meals are great on their own, but you can also mix in extras to make it your own like some of these ideas below:
Scrambled eggs
Extra veggies (slice up whatever’s in the fridge)
Additional spices like curry, cumin, zaatar
Sliced avocado
Toasted nuts or seeds
