7 Simple Sandwich Ideas Beyond the PB&J
We all love a classic peanut butter & jelly sandwich, but you and your littles might enjoy mixing it up with some of these fun yet simple sandwich ideas below. They’re all also peanut free and safe to bring to school, daycare, or camp. For more ideas on how to build and mix & match sandwich options, check out our sandwich builder handout.
Sandwich Ideas:
Cucumber and cream cheese. For some kiddos or toddlers, you may want to offer this combo with shredded cucumber mixed into the cream cheese. Choose a Greek yogurt cream cheese for a protein and calorie boost.
Egg salad. Mix to the consistency that your kiddo likes from chunky to smooth. Add mustard and paprika to make it deviled!
Granola butter & berries. Granola butter (an oat based spread) is a little sweeter than peanut butter, so it can stand up to the tartness of fresh berries.
Sliced chicken meatballs/sausage & provolone cheese. This would also be great on a sub roll or served hot.
Chocolate hummus and sliced apples. Hummus flavors are endless these days and a great way to mix things up.
Smashed peas and avocado. Peas are a surprisingly good source of protein. Make a smash by thawing frozen peas and fork mashing into ripe avocado. If you’re kiddo is into it, throw in some chopped spinach!
Sliced mozzarella and pesto. Sliced tomatoes might make the bread too soggy if packing for a school lunch, but may be a welcome addition if you’re making sandwiches to eat right away.
